A Quimbaya Pectoral is missing from a Scottsdale, AZ Gallery. 

 Quimbaya Pectoral, ca. A.D. 500-1000, diameter 7 3/4in (19.5cm), gold, finely hammered and cut into a circular domed form and pierced four times for attachment, with finely raised double-row dotted pattern around the edge. 
Removed without permission from the gallery. We are not sure exactly when it was stolen, sometime over the last six months. Attached is an image of the piece. STOLEN - Loloma Jewelry - Santa Fe, NM

Seven major Loloma jewelry pieces and a similar Richard Chavez gold ring were stolen from a Santa Fe, NM Home circa August 31, 2011.

Many pieces have been recovered. The remaining missing pieces are pictured and described below:

  1. Very large bracelet of silver. Would be signed Loloma. Length 1.75”. Pictured in the Loloma Book. See photo .
  2. The final stolen item is a Richard Chavez ring. Ring, 14kt gold, green jade (almost triangular in shape) with black jade, coral and turquoise accents. Signed. See photo.

STOLEN - Various Native American Items - Tucson, AZ

A number of items were stolen from a home in Tucson, Arizona
June 2011

  • An Apache pitch-covered water basket, purchased on the San Carlos Reservation outside of Miami, AZ, in 1939;
  • A shallow, medium-sized Hopi bowl with a white interior with black-and-white design and an orange/brown slip exterior;
  • A Tohono O’odham basket tray with indented concentric circular design;
  • A Navajo 1940’s silver men’s bracelet;
  • A brown, cream, and red beaded necklace (unknown tribal origin);
  • A Navajo sand-cast silver and turquoise belt bucket on a leather and snakeskin belt (the belt was made in the late 1960s/early 1970s; the buckle pre-dates the belt but I do not have a more precise date estimate).

ATADA member Pat Harrington left a concho belt in his room at a Gallup, NM motel on the evening of April 15. He went to his car. When he returned a few minutes later, the belt was gone.

STOLEN - Sculpture & Other Art - Phoenix, AZ

Artist’s Trailer Stolen from Phoenix, AZ Hotel
March 4, 2010

Cliff Fragua’s trailer containing several statues and other art was stolen during the night of March 3-4, 2010. In it was about $5,000 worth of jewelry and six sculptures — two bronzes and four stone pieces. 

The trailer itself was a white Haulmark enclosed trailer with a door on the side and a single drop ramp in the back. The fenders are mismatched. It is registered in California (permanent plate which is white.)

STOLEN - Plateau Woman's Dress Top - Portland, OR

During the night of Friday, November 26, 2009, there was a break-in at the Arthur W. Ericson Gallery in Portland, OR.

The stolen piece is a Plateau woman’s dress top, c. 1900. At the time it was stolen it was in mint condition. It is thread sewn on canvas with a red cloth lining. The beading is two needle spot stitch and the execution was excellent.

The thieves broke through the display window in the store and were able to reach the piece and pull it off its stand and through the window. We have armorcote on our windows which make it harder for someone to put a hole through the window. However our coating was about 15 years old and the people who replaced the armorcote after the theft told me that armorcote becomes brittle and loses its strength after about 10 years.

Stolen - Hi-Top Mocs & Zia Jar, Santa Fe, NM

During the night of October 2, 2009, there was a break-in at the Spanish and Indian Trading Company in Santa Fe, NM. Two large items were stolen.

STOLEN - Antique Navajo Bracelet - Denver, CO

Antique Navajo Bracelet Stolen from Widow’s Home, Denver, Colorado, circa August 1, 2009

An antique Navajo Bracelet with five robin’s egg blue stones on stamped bracelet, stones separated with two silver drops, high bezels, 1900 – 1925 was stolen from the home of a Bobrick Antiques customer approximately August 1, 2009.

STOLEN - Basket Collection - Hemet, CA

A collection of nineteen American Indian Baskets were stolen from a Hemet, CA home in early August, 2009.

In all, nineteen items have been stolen – Hopi, Karuk, Hupa – not sure of dimensions but relative sizes are correctly shown in large versions of images. 2 Karuk hats, 2 Hopi baskets, 1 Hopi Platter, 1 Karuk Wall Hanging, 1 Karuk woven bottle, 2 Hupa baskets, 10 Karuk baskets – most of the Karuk baskets were made by Florence Harrie, all items 70 years or older.
